The noble cause of a marathon runner and his refrigerator
British Tony Phoenix-Morrison, 48, has made his life a crazy marathon: he runs some long kilometers to fight cancer. And what’s more: carrying a 42-kilo refrigerator on your back.
He recently gained the nickname “Tony-fridge”. That’s because he managed to complete 30 half-marathons in just 30 days. Among his achievements, he completed the Great North Run in 2011; the 30 Great North, in 2012, which consisted of 30 half-marathons in 30 days; Kilter, Sunderland, Blaydon and 50 other challenges. Last year he ran 67.1 miles non-stop around Newcastle Pier in 24 hours, always with the fridge on his back. The marathon runner has already completed several races with the appliance on his back to raise funds for the British Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which funds research in the fight against cancer.
Tony has always watched many friends and family members suffer from the disease and this made him stick to this noble cause, raising awareness by raising funds for the association he collaborates with, already raising 40 thousand pounds in just one race.
“The refrigerator symbolizes the enormous pain we carry when we are affected by cancer or know someone with the disease”,
he wrote on his page.
For Tony, the challenges represent people’s daily struggle with the disease. And that’s why he fights tirelessly to help them. And you, how far would you go to help a stranger?
