BEAUTIES OF BRP: YELLOW BUTTERFLY

Our park has natural beauty that can seem surreal. During the rafting descent, or even walking around the park, you will be enchanted by the yellow butterfly!

Yellow butterfly (Phoebis philea philea), gem butterfly or flock butterfly, are the names given to the various gregarious butterflies, from the pierid family. This butterfly has a cheerful yellow color and is found on the American continent, from the USA to Argentina. It reaches up to nine centimeters, counting the wingspan, and reproduces by laying eggs in flower buds or young leaves of vegetables, such as golden rain, mata-pasto and mangueiroba.

A curiosity is their diet: male yellow butterflies suck clay, taking advantage of the mineral salts dissolved in the water; Females, on the other hand, feed on the nectar of flowers;

Because it is gregarious, it usually walks in groups, and the most impressive thing is the speed of its flight, which happens quickly from the ground to the tops of trees, inhabiting gardens, forests and near lakes and streams. When these butterflies fly in groups, emerging from some corner of nowhere, the park looks like a scene from Disney fairy tales.
